About

Dylan Overheim creates stylized paintings examining and articulating mental illness. Themes of anxiety, abstraction and duality are at the center of his practice. The invisible concept of the inner workings of the human brain and the way we perceive ourselves drives the subtle twists of Overheim’s work while keeping them grounded in a reality.

The strange instances of obscure points in life are amplified by the various props in the detailed scenes. His method of crafting a layered image through clear rendering with a brush and abstraction of forms with a palette knife and sandpaper, Overheim fully encapsulates the hidden uncertainty, over stimulus, and uneasiness in anxiety.
